APMEN Lumpia Fundraiser
The Pacific Sierra APMEN has been in existence for over ten years. They have always been involved at the RMHC Bay Area Scholarship event, in partnership with the AMOA. In 2009, the PSR APMEN decided that in lieu of a celebration for Asian Heritage Month, they would spend their time volunteering at the Ronald House. Members of PSR APMEN did the spring cleaning at the Ronald House in Palo Alto to prepare the play area for summer. During the Christmas season, members also helped wrapping Christmas presents for the kids at the Palo Alto House.
In August of 2009, an idea came up to do a fundraising for the House after they found out from one of the GAFF Co-Op meetings about the expansion of both Bay Area Ronald Houses. We set a goal of $1000 by December 31, 2009. They started their fund with monetary donations from the members. The members then got together for three Saturdays and wrapped “Lumpia" (Filipino eggrolls) and sold them to the PSR staff. By December 31, 2009, they were able to reach their goal of $1000. The money was presented to the Ronald House in San Francisco on May 19, 2010.
Members also started collecting toiletries and gift cards last year. They are ready to present the toiletries and gift cards to the Palo Alto house this Saturday, May 29, 2010.
Since there are two Bay Area Ronald Houses, they decided as a network that they want to be able to serve both houses. Since San Francisco needs more funds for the new location, it was agreed upon that whatever money we raised will be for the Ronald House in San Francsico and volunteer work will be in Palo Alto. They are scheduled to do volunteer work at the Ronald House in Palo Alto on May 29 from 1-4pm. For the rest of this year, part of their network activities include cooking dinner at both Bay Area houses sometime in July /August and September/October timeframes, being on call in case either one of the houses need cleaning and maintenance work, and gift wrapping in December.
They also set a goal of $2000 this year so they set aside one Saturday a month for members to wrap egg rolls. We are thankful that the PSR staff and AMOA continue to support our fundraising efforts to raise money for the Ronald Houses expansion.
